MKE TOLGA DRONE DEFENSE SYSTEM: INTEGRATED SOLUTION FOR A LAYERED AIR DEFENSE STRUCTURE
The modern battlefield is undergoing a transformation in which the scale and nature of threats are changing. In particular, mini/micro UAVs and tactical drones are now being used not only for surveillance but also for direct attack purposes. Responding to this change, Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE) is integrating a layered air defence architecture into the field with domestic systems operating at short, medium and long ranges.
First Layer – Detection, Jamming and Interception:
Operating at the outer perimeter of the airspace, the Mini & Micro UAV Detection and RF Countermeasure System provides target detection up to 10 km, identification up to 9 km, and soft-kill engagement using radar, electro-optical, and electronic jamming systems. With the ability to simultaneously track up to 100 targets, it provides an effective first line of defence against intense attacks.
Second Layer – Effective Firepower Against Close-Air Threats:
The 40 mm Automatic Weapon System, deployed on both fixed and mobile platforms, neutralises low-altitude threats at an effective range of 50 metres using anti-drone ammunition. With automatic target tracking, ballistic calculation, and multi-weapon integration, the system delivers superior performance against multiple threats.
Third Layer – Precision Medium-Range Engagement:
The integrated 12.7 mm Rotary Barrel Weapon System (TOLGA) can neutralise low-altitude threats up to 300 metres using special anti-drone ammunition. With radar, electro-optical and command control integration, the system offers dynamic engagement capability even on moving platforms.
Fourth Layer – Multi-Purpose 20 mm Weapon Family:
MKE's 20 mm calibre Gatling-type rotary barrel system, revolver turret and manual weapon systems, with anti-drone ammunition, are effective against both drones and larger air targets such as helicopters, with effective ranges of up to 1,000 metres. High firing rates, accuracy, and ease of integration into different platforms enhance the flexibility of the layered structure.
Fifth Layer – Long-Range and Stabilised Protection:
The TOLGA 35 mm Revolver Weapon System forms the system's final line of defence with its anti-drone munitions effective range of up to 3,000 metres, two-axis stabilisation, advanced target classification algorithms, and fire control computer. This structure, which offers high accuracy against both stationary and moving targets, forms the backbone of the system.
Support Element – Complementary Layer with Autonomous Drone Systems:
The 4 km range, laser-guided KZ5-LG and KZ5-BLG drone systems play a critical role in the search for low-cost, accurate and jam-resistant solutions. With tripod integration, automatic targeting and high accuracy, these systems can destroy enemy elements with pinpoint precision, providing tactical support in a layered architecture.
